Kris Srikkanth Urges MS Dhoni to Retire from IPL Amid Struggles

Nothing 9 5

Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has advised MS Dhoni to consider stepping away from the Indian Premier League (IPL), citing age-related decline in fitness and reflexes. With Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failing to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season, Srikkanth believes Dhoni should walk away if he can no longer meet the demands of the tournament.

Srikkanth’s Take on Dhoni’s Performance

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth pointed out that Dhoni’s reflexes have slowed down, affecting his ability to dominate bowlers, particularly spinners. He remarked that Dhoni, once known for smashing off-spinners into the stands, is now struggling against them.

“Dhoni is also ageing, you can’t expect too much from him. But at the same time, you can’t keep coming and messing it up. If you are not able to do it, say you’re not able to do it and walk away,” Srikkanth stated.

CSK’s Disappointing IPL 2025 Campaign

CSK’s poor form in IPL 2025 has raised concerns about the team’s future. With just three wins in 13 matches, the franchise is on the verge of finishing last in the points table. Dhoni, who took over the captaincy from Ruturaj Gaikwad mid-season, has struggled to make an impact, scoring just 196 runs in 13 innings.

What’s Next for Dhoni?

Despite speculation about his retirement, reports suggest that Dhoni may continue playing in IPL 2026, though he could step down from captaincy. CSK’s final match of the season against Gujarat Titans on May 25 could be a defining moment for Dhoni’s future in the league.
