Guwahati – A high-level Japanese delegation, led by House of Representatives Speaker Nukaga Fukushiro, has arrived in Assam for a three-day visit, aimed at enhancing economic and strategic cooperation between Japan and the northeastern state.
The 45-member delegation was welcomed at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Sports Minister Nandita Gorlosa, and Chief Secretary Ravi Kota. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later hosted the delegation at his office, emphasizing that the visit would encourage Japanese investment in Assam and other northeastern states.
During the visit, the delegation will tour IIT Guwahati, the Tata Semiconductor and Testing Facility at Jagiroad, and various Japanese-aided projects in Assam. The discussions also include the establishment of a Japanese Language and Testing Centre at ASEAN One Technical Centre in Kamrup, aimed at creating employment opportunities for Assam’s youth in Japan.
Sarma highlighted that the visit aligns with Advantage Assam 2.0, a strategic initiative to boost bilateral trade and investment. He also recalled his January visit to Japan, where he invited Fukushiro to Assam to explore collaborative opportunities.
The delegation attended a cultural program hosted in their honor, with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya also present. The visit is expected to strengthen Assam-Japan ties, fostering economic, educational, and technological partnerships.
