Former Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has cast doubt on Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.

Speaking in an interview, Gavaskar stated that given the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, he does not see Pakistan being part of the tournament, which is set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. He emphasized that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has always followed the Indian government’s directives regarding cricketing ties with Pakistan and suggested that the situation may lead to Pakistan’s exclusion from the event.

The attack has further strained India-Pakistan sporting relations, with calls for a complete boycott of Pakistan in international cricket growing louder. Several former Indian cricketers, including Sourav Ganguly, have urged the BCCI to sever all cricketing ties with Pakistan, citing national security concerns.

Gavaskar also speculated on the future of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), suggesting that the Asia Cup could be replaced by a triangular or quadrangular series, potentially involving teams like Hong Kong or the UAE.

While no official decision has been made regarding Pakistan’s participation, the political and security landscape will likely play a crucial role in determining the final outcome.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
