In a landmark step for healthcare in Northeast India, the Mohan Foundation has officially launched its organ transplant programme at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital, Tripura’s premier medical institution.
🏥 MoU Signed to Boost Organ Donation Ecosystem
The initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 17, 2025, between the Chennai-based NGO and AGMC. The collaboration aims to establish a robust framework for organ donation awareness, training, and transplant coordination across the state.
👨⚕️ State Coordinator Appointed, Training Underway
Vincent Debbarma has been appointed as the state coordinator and assumed charge on June 1. He is currently undergoing specialized training, and a dedicated office space has been set up within the hospital to support the Foundation’s operations.
📚 Awareness and Capacity Building Initiatives
A team from the Mohan Foundation will conduct training sessions for doctors and nurses at AGMC and GB Pant Hospital in the last week of June. These sessions aim to build medical capacity and foster a culture of ethical organ donation.
🧠 Steering Committee to Oversee Implementation
A steering committee is being formed in collaboration with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), Tripura, to monitor the programme’s rollout and encourage transplant procedures across the state.

Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Medical Superintendent of AGMC and GB Pant Hospital, said the partnership marks a transformative moment for the region’s healthcare system, with an initial focus on liver transplants.
