Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army, played a pivotal role in the planning and execution of Operation Sindoor, India’s recent military offensive against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Lt Gen Ghai, a decorated officer from the Kumaon Regiment, was commissioned into the Indian Army in December 1989 after graduating from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. Over his 33-year career, he has held several key operational and strategic positions, including serving as the General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Chinar Corps, which oversees military operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
During a high-level press briefing on May 11, Lt Gen Ghai outlined the objectives and outcomes of Operation Sindoor, emphasizing that the strikes were precise and targeted, eliminating over 100 terrorists, including high-value targets linked to past terror attacks against India. He also confirmed that Pakistan suffered significant losses, including the destruction of multiple terror infrastructure sites.
Lt Gen Ghai played a crucial role in coordinating military strategies, ensuring effective communication between India’s armed forces and intelligence agencies. His leadership was instrumental in countering Pakistan’s ceasefire violations, which included drone attacks and cross-border shelling.
Apart from his operational expertise, Lt Gen Ghai has been honored with several prestigious military awards, including the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), and Sena Medal (SM) for his distinguished service.
As India continues to strengthen its national security strategy, Lt Gen Ghai remains a key figure in shaping military operations and ensuring the country’s preparedness against external threats.
