Tata Electronics Set to Double iPhone Casings Production to One Lakh Units

Tata Electronics is preparing to double its production capacity for iPhone enclosures at its Hosur facility, aiming to reach one lakh units ahead of Apple’s annual product launches in September.

The expansion follows Tata Electronics’ successful acquisition of Pegatron Technology India and Wistron’s India operations, strengthening its position in Apple’s global supply chain. The company had previously achieved a capacity of 50,000 enclosures, but a fire incident in September 2024 temporarily halted its rapid growth.

Apple’s Shift to India for iPhone Manufacturing

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently stated that India will become the primary manufacturing hub for iPhones sold in the United States, marking a strategic shift away from China. Cook confirmed that most iPhones sold in the US in the June quarter will have India as their country of origin.

Tata Electronics’ Expansion Strategy

  • Phase II Build-Out – The company is ramping up production to pre-fire levels and beyond, ensuring seamless supply for Apple’s upcoming devices.
  • Strengthening Apple’s Supplier Base – Tata Electronics’ expansion aligns with Apple’s broader push to diversify its supply chain, reducing dependence on Chinese manufacturers.
  • Foxconn & Jabil’s Growth in India – Other Apple suppliers, including Foxconn and Jabil, are also scaling up operations, with Foxconn investing heavily in Bengaluru and Hyderabad to expand its mobile assembly and AirPods production.

As Tata Electronics accelerates its manufacturing capabilities, India’s role in Apple’s global production network continues to grow, reinforcing the country’s position as a key player in the tech supply chain.
