The Indian National Congress has issued a show-cause notice to former Member of Parliament Laxman Singh, citing his derogatory remarks against senior party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi. The party stated that Singh’s comments had crossed all acceptable limits and caused serious damage to its image and dignity.

Congress Takes Disciplinary Action

The notice, issued on May 9 by the party’s Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC), directed Singh to submit a written explanation within 10 days. The complaint was filed by Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari and AICC general secretary Harish Chaudhary, who accused Singh of repeatedly making public statements that harmed the party’s reputation.

Controversial Remarks Following Pahalgam Attack

Singh, the younger brother of Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh, made the remarks during a condolence meeting for victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 25. He criticized the party leadership, stating, “Rahul Gandhi and Robert Vadra are naïve. The country is suffering the consequences of their immaturity.” He also targeted Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleging that he was “in cahoots with terrorists”.

Congress Leaders React

A senior Congress leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, suggested that Singh’s future in the party is uncertain, hinting at possible expulsion if he fails to provide a satisfactory response.

As the party navigates internal challenges, the disciplinary action against Singh underscores its efforts to maintain unity and protect its leadership from public criticism.
