Mizoram CM Unveils ₹2.5 Crore Bamboo Processing Units to Boost Green Economy

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has inaugurated a ₹2.52 crore bamboo processing unit at the state’s horticulture center in Sairang, marking a major step toward sustainable industrial growth. The facility, established under the National Bamboo Mission, aims to enhance bamboo-based economic activity and create new employment opportunities in the region.

Key Features of the Bamboo Processing Unit

  • Bamboo Treatment & Seasoning Plant: Increases the utility and durability of bamboo, extending its lifespan up to 50 years.
  • Activated Charcoal Unit: Produces three tonnes of charcoal per day, with an expected annual output of 900 tonnes.
  • Bamboo Depot & Warehouse: Ensures efficient storage and distribution of processed bamboo products.
  • Sustainable Production: Bamboo charcoal production is more eco-friendly than traditional wood-based charcoal, helping to preserve forests.

Economic & Environmental Impact

CM Lalduhoma emphasized that bamboo’s rapid growth cycle makes it an ideal resource for sustainable development. The new facility is expected to boost Mizoram’s economy, with three bamboo clusters in Serchhip and Mamit districts supplying raw materials.
