Following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, former cricketer Aakash Chopra has urged the franchise to drop seven players, including Ravindra Jadeja, in a bid to rebuild the squad for the next season. CSK, a five-time IPL champion, endured a horrific season, losing 10 out of 13 matches, and is on the verge of finishing last in the points table.
Chopra’s List of Players to Be Dropped
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out show, Chopra revealed his long list of players CSK should release, citing their underwhelming performances. The seven players he believes should be let go include:
- Ravindra Jadeja
- Ravichandran Ashwin
- Rachin Ravindra
- Devon Conway
- Vijay Shankar
- Deepak Hooda
- Rahul Tripathi
Jadeja’s Struggles in IPL 2025
Jadeja, a veteran CSK all-rounder, has had a below-par season, scoring 280 runs and picking up just eight wickets. Chopra suggested that CSK should trade Jadeja and instead bat Dewald Brevis at No. 4, emphasizing the need for a more aggressive batting approach.
CSK’s Home Form and Future Strategy
CSK’s home record has been particularly shocking, winning just one out of six matches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Chopra believes the franchise needs to rethink its batting order, especially after sending Ashwin and Jadeja at No. 4 and No. 5 in their recent loss against Rajasthan Royals.
What’s Next for CSK?
With one match remaining in IPL 2025, CSK has a chance to avoid finishing last by securing a big win against Gujarat Titans on May 25. However, the franchise is expected to make significant changes in the off-season, with Jadeja’s future at CSK uncertain.
