Aizawl, Mizoram – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised serious concerns regarding the legality and safety of the newly inaugurated Aizawl Peak Skywalk, urging authorities to disclose the identity of its owner.
The skywalk, which was inaugurated by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on February 18, has quickly become a major tourist attraction. However, AAP leaders have questioned whether the structure meets all necessary regulatory approvals and safety standards.
According to reports, the skywalk was constructed by Nail India Adventure Private Limited, a Pune-based company, and features 30mm toughened glass panels designed to accommodate up to 135 people at a time. Safety inspections conducted by NIT Mizoram confirmed that the structure could support 150 individuals weighing approximately 100 kg each, and a 9,500 kg sandbag test was performed to validate its stability.
Despite these assurances, AAP has demanded greater transparency regarding the ownership and management of the facility. The party has called for an independent review of the structure’s compliance with safety regulations and urged the government to clarify whether all necessary permits were obtained before its public opening.
The Aizawl Peak Skywalk, located at Hangi Lunglen Tlang, has been promoted as a key initiative to boost tourism in Mizoram, which boasts 165 tourist destinations. While the government remains optimistic about its impact on the local economy, concerns over safety and regulatory compliance continue to spark debate.
Authorities have yet to respond to AAP’s demands for clarification. Meanwhile, visitors continue to flock to the skywalk, eager to experience its breathtaking views.
