Adani Power has expressed optimism about recovering the remaining dues from Bangladesh under a power-supply agreement signed in 2017. The company has already received $1.2 billion of the $2 billion owed by Bangladesh, with payments now exceeding the monthly billing amount.
Bangladesh had faced financial difficulties due to rising import costs following the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022 and domestic political upheaval last year, which led to the removal of the prime minister. These challenges had forced Adani Power to cut its supply by half in 2024. However, with payments now stabilizing, the company has resumed full power supply to Bangladesh.
Dilip Jha, Chief Financial Officer of Adani Power, stated during a post-earnings call that the company is hopeful of recovering the remaining $900 million in outstanding dues. “We are supplying full power to Bangladesh … the payment we are receiving now is more than the monthly billing,” Jha said, adding that the company expects the old dues to be cleared soon.
The resolution of this financial issue marks a significant step forward for both parties, ensuring continued energy cooperation between India and Bangladesh. Adani Power remains confident that the ongoing payment arrangements will eventually clear the remaining debt.
