Amid rising floodwaters and widespread devastation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted an on-ground review of relief operations in Hailakandi district, one of the worst-hit areas in the ongoing monsoon floods.

🔴 Key Highlights:

  • Over 5.6 lakh people displaced across 19 districts, with thousands seeking shelter in relief camps.
  • CM Sarma visited major relief camps, interacting with affected families and assuring sustained government support.
  • Medical teams deployed, ensuring drinking water supply and cooked meals for displaced residents.
  • Relief efforts intensified in Kalinagar and Panchgram, where evacuee numbers continue to rise.

📢 CM Sarma’s Statement:

  • “We are working round the clock to ensure that the displaced do not suffer further. Relief materials, including food, baby supplies, and sanitation kits, are being provided without delay.”

⚠️ Ongoing Challenges:

  • 117 villages in Morigaon remain underwater, with cropland and livestock losses mounting.
  • Barak Valley’s Sribhumi and North Sribhumi’s Baatgram remain marooned, disrupting transportation and power networks.
  • Environmentalists blame climate change, deforestation, and weak embankments for recurring floods.
