In a student-centric move aimed at easing the academic burden, the Government of Assam has announced a monthly financial assistance of ₹300 for students preparing for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations. The scheme, unveiled by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will run for six months, offering a total of ₹1,800 per student.
🎯 Objective: Support Tuition & Nutrition Needs
The initiative is designed to help students from economically weaker backgrounds afford:
- Supplementary tuition classes
- Improved dietary intake during exam preparation months
“To give them an extra push in their preparation, we will give them ₹300/month for 6 months so that they can take up tuitions or improve their diet before the exams,” CM Sarma stated on social media.
🏫 Who Will Benefit?
- All eligible HSLC candidates across Assam
- Funds will be directly transferred to students’ bank accounts
- The scheme is expected to benefit thousands of students statewide
The HSLC exam, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), is a critical academic milestone for over 3 lakh students annually.
🧠 Broader Vision: Equal Academic Opportunity
This financial aid is part of the Assam government’s broader mission to:
- Promote equitable access to education
- Reduce dropout rates due to financial constraints
- Empower youth through targeted welfare schemes
The move follows other educational initiatives, including the Bhasha Gaurav Scheme to support indigenous language education.
