Assam’s Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika conducted a comprehensive review of flood protection projects in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), reaffirming the state government’s commitment to mitigating flood risks ahead of the monsoon season.
Inspection of Key Embankment Projects
During his one-day visit to Tamulpur district, Hazarika inspected four major embankment projects, spanning 13 kilometers, designed to strengthen flood and erosion control measures. These projects utilize Geo Mega Tube technology, enhancing structural integrity and long-term durability.
The embankments under construction include:
- Dikpar (Ghatirpam) site near Goreswar – 3.5 km embankment along the Suklai River (₹5.75 crore under SOPD-G scheme).
- Kakatichuba (Bholajhar) – 2.1 km embankment (₹2.65 crore).
- Palokata to Balabari in Tamulpur – 4.7 km embankment (₹6.44 crore).
- Chapatal to Gohain Kamal Ali – 3 km embankment (₹5.10 crore).
Government’s Focus on Flood Management
Hazarika emphasized that effective flood control is crucial for protecting infrastructure, agricultural productivity, and local communities. He credited Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership for prioritizing holistic development in BTR, ensuring rapid progress in flood resilience efforts.

The minister was accompanied by Tamulpur MLA Jolen Daimary, Assam Youth Commission Member Ratul Sharma, BTR Executive Member Ranendra Narzary, and senior officials from the Water Resources Department.
