In a move that has stirred both support and criticism, BJP leader Madhavi Latha erected a makeshift temple at the entrance of Elite Hills Apartments in Malakpet, Hyderabad, on June 15, 2025, amid an ongoing civil dispute between residents and the building’s developer.
Temple Installation Amid Parking Dispute
The incident unfolded following a scuffle between flat owners and the builder over alleged illegal construction in the apartment’s stilt area—originally designated for parking. The builder, reportedly from another community, was accused of violating court orders by initiating construction in the common area.
In response, Madhavi Latha placed a Ganesha idol on the compound wall and constructed a temporary brick shed, calling it a stand against “anti-social elements” and a show of solidarity with the residents.
Political Undertones and Communal Tensions
Madhavi, who recently contested the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat against AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, alleged that local AIMIM MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala failed to intervene and instead sought private settlements. She urged residents not to attend any such meetings without her presence.
During the temple installation, BJP workers reportedly raised religious slogans, prompting concerns over the communalization of what was initially a civil dispute. Police were present at the scene and have since increased security in the area.
Residents’ Concerns and Legal Implications
Residents claim they had previously obtained court orders halting construction in the disputed area. The incident has reignited debates over unauthorized construction, religious symbolism in civic disputes, and the role of political leaders in sensitive matters.
