The Transition to Higher Education

Filmmaker Farah Khan and her husband, editor and director Shirish Kunder, are navigating a deeply emotional phase in their lives as parents. Their triplets, Diva, Anya, and Czar, have officially packed their bags and left their home in Mumbai. The young adults are embarking on a major new chapter to pursue their higher education at universities located across the United States. This significant milestone marks a major turning point for the close-knit family, transitioning from a bustling household to an empty nest.

Spreading Across Three American Cities

What makes this transition even more challenging for the parents is the geographical separation of their children. Rather than settling down in a single campus town or sharing accommodation, the three siblings are heading to entirely different parts of the United States. They will be living in three distinct US cities as they dive into their respective university programs. Managing three separate academic schedules and distant time zones will undoubtedly require a major adjustment for the entire family.

Navigating Parental Emotions

For any parent, sending children away for college is a difficult experience, but watching all three children leave at the same time is uniquely overwhelming. Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder have been vocal about their deep bond with their children, often sharing glimpses of their family life on social media. The sudden quietness in the home highlights the profound impact of this departure. Friends, well-wishers, and fans have been sending supportive messages to the couple as they come to terms with this bittersweet milestone.

Looking Ahead to the Future

As Diva, Anya, and Czar begin their academic journeys in America, they carry the love and values instilled by their parents in Mumbai. While the physical distance is vast, modern technology will help bridge the gap between India and the United States. Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder now face the new reality of long-distance parenting, cheering for their children’s academic success from afar while eagerly anticipating their eventual returns during semester breaks.
