Background on the BRICS Summit

India has officially stepped into its role as the BRICS Chair for the year 2026, marking a significant diplomatic milestone for the nation. As part of its responsibilities, the country is set to host the high-profile 18th summit.

The prestigious international gathering will take place at the prominent Bharat Mandapam venue, starting on Friday evening. Global leaders and delegates are expected to converge in New Delhi for the multi-nation discussions.

Political Discourse Surrounding the Event

The announcement and preparation for the international summit have sparked notable political commentary within the country. Senior political figures have openly discussed the logistics and the attendance of global heads of state.

While the government prepares to welcome foreign dignitaries, opposition leaders have raised questions regarding the confirmation details of visiting presidents and prime ministers. These remarks have subsequently led to swift counter-responses from ruling party representatives.

Significance of Bharat Mandapam as a Venue

Bharat Mandapam has increasingly become the premier destination for international conventions and mega-events in India. Its modern infrastructure and capacity to host world-class delegations make it the ideal choice for the summit.

The venue previously gained international acclaim during other major global gatherings. Hosting the BRICS summit further cements its status as a central hub for international diplomacy and high-level economic negotiations.

Looking Ahead at India’s BRICS Chairmanship

Taking over the leadership role in 2026 allows India to shape key discussions on global economic cooperation, sustainable development, and geopolitical stability.

As the summit kicks off, international observers will closely monitor the outcomes and bilateral meetings held on the sidelines of the main event. The gathering represents a crucial platform for emerging economies to address shared challenges and future goals.
