Dr. Hassan Mushtaq, a chest medicine specialist in Kolkata, is deeply concerned for his family in Rajouri, as heavy shelling continues near the Indo-Pak border following Operation Sindoor.

Family Forced to Seek Shelter

Mushtaq’s parents and siblings, residing just 300 meters from the shelling zone, were forced to evacuate to a safer village after the tragic death of Rajouri’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Raj Kumar Thapa, who was hit by an artillery shell.

Sleepless Nights and Constant Updates

“I spent my childhood in Rajouri, and this is the first time such intense shelling is happening in town areas. I am safe in Kolkata, but I am constantly in touch with my family, hoping for peace,” Mushtaq shared.

Ceasefire Announced, But Violations Continue

A temporary ceasefire was declared on May 11, but reports of violations have surfaced, keeping residents on edge.

Rajouri’s Changing Landscape

Mushtaq recalls that Rajouri was peaceful before the Pahalgam massacre, which abruptly changed the region’s security situation. His family had once encouraged him to return home and work, but now they fear for his safety.

Hope for Stability

Mushtaq remains hopeful that peace will return, allowing families to live without fear.
