Manipur’s Military Pride Grows as Nine Officers Join Indian Armed Forces

Manipur has once again underscored its reputation as a key contributor to India’s defence forces, with nine young officers from the state recently commissioned into the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Assam Rifles. The officers were felicitated on June 25 at a special ceremony hosted by the Assam Rifles at Mantripukhri Garrison, celebrating their achievements and the state’s enduring military legacy.

Diverse Backgrounds, Shared Dedication

Among the newly commissioned officers:

  • Four joined the Gorkha Rifles
  • Two were inducted into the Regiment of Artillery
  • One each into the Grenadiers, Assam Rifles, and the Indian Air Force

Notably, six of the nine officers are alumni of Sainik School Imphal, and several are graduates of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Military Academy (IMA).

Inspiring Journeys

  • Flying Officer Mayanglambam Lucky Singh, commissioned into the IAF, is the son of an autorickshaw driver and a homemaker.
  • Assistant Commandant Hingba Graceson R., now an officer in the Assam Rifles, began his career as a recruit in 2005 and rose through the ranks over two decades.
  • Lt. A. Naoten Meitei, Lt. Naoba Meitei, and Lt. Ronendro Angam hail from the Imphal Valley and were commissioned into the Gorkha Rifles.
  • Lt. M. Denish Singh, Lt. Meghnath Soibam, and Lt. Thokchom Siddharth Singh were commissioned into the Grenadiers and Artillery regiments.

A Legacy of Service

Maj. Gen. Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), praised the officers’ perseverance and their families’ sacrifices, stating:

“Their success will inspire future generations and reinforce Manipur’s position as the largest contributor of officers among northeastern states.”
