Matter Aera 5000+ First Ride Review: India’s First Geared Electric Motorcycle Redefines EV Riding

Nothing 52 7

In a bold move that blends traditional motorcycling with next-gen electric innovation, Matter Motorworks has launched the Aera 5000+, India’s first electric motorcycle equipped with a manual gearbox. Designed and manufactured entirely in-house in Ahmedabad, the Aera 5000+ is a game-changer in the EV space, offering a riding experience that’s both nostalgic and futuristic.

⚙️ A Gearbox That Changes the Game

Unlike most EVs that rely on single-speed transmissions, the Aera 5000+ features a 4-speed manual gearbox with a clutch, paired with a 10kW liquid-cooled motor and a 5kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a claimed range of 125km in Eco mode, with real-world top speeds exceeding 110kmph.

“It’s not just about efficiency—it’s about rider engagement,” said a Matter spokesperson during the first ride event in Gujarat.

🧠 Feature-Rich and Rider-Focused

The Aera 5000+ is packed with segment-first features:

  • 7-inch TFT touchscreen with navigation, Bluetooth, and ride analytics
  • Three ride modes (Eco, City, Sport)
  • Park assist with reverse mode
  • Geo-fencing, OTA updates, and remote diagnostics
  • Keyless operation and auto turn indicators

Riders can also control music and calls via smartphone integration, making it one of the most connected motorcycles in its class.

🏍️ Ride Experience: Familiar Yet Futuristic

On the road, the Aera 5000+ feels like a muscular 200cc street-naked bike, with sharp styling, LED lighting, and a confident stance. The gearbox adds a layer of control and excitement, though riders may need time to adjust to the EV-specific torque curve and gear ratios.

“Clutch in, a click down to first, and with a gentle twist of the throttle, I was gliding silently. This was new… yet familiar,” noted a reviewer from Motoring World.

🎨 Design and Variants

Available in five colors—Cosmic Black, Glacier White, Blaze Red, Cosmic Blue, and Nord Grey—the Aera 5000+ is priced competitively in the premium commuter segment.

Stay tuned for more updates on India’s evolving EV landscape.
