Raja, 29, was allegedly murdered on May 23 in Sohra (Cherrapunji) by three hired attackers, reportedly at the behest of his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj Kushwaha. While the case initially appeared to be a crime of passion, DGP Nongrang said:
“Frankly speaking, I still find it difficult to accept the motive that has been given by the accused… On the surface, it appears to be a love triangle, but personally I wouldn’t believe that it’s the only motive.”

💬 DGP: “Loose Ends Being Tied Up”
The DGP assured that the investigation is progressing rapidly:
“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the investigation is foolproof… We have enough evidence and are working to ensure that the case is chargesheeted within the mandated time.”
🧪 Jewellery Clue and Forensic Trail
During interrogation, Sonam revealed the location of missing jewellery, which police are now tracing. The machete used in the murder was reportedly purchased in Guwahati, where the attackers stayed before traveling to Sohra.
