Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to tackling the growing menace of drug trafficking, particularly along the state’s borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh. During a high-level meeting with officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Lalduhoma emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security measures and better infrastructure to curb the influx of narcotics into the state.
Strengthening Border Security
The Chief Minister highlighted the rising cases of drug smuggling, which have severely impacted Mizoram’s youth. He stressed the importance of deploying additional personnel along the border and proposed the establishment of a Mizo Territorial Army under the Ministry of Home Affairs to strengthen security operations.
Coordinated Efforts to Combat Drug Trafficking
Lalduhoma also announced the formation of a special coordination committee to accelerate the fight against drug-related crimes. The committee will work closely with law enforcement agencies and community leaders to ensure swift action against traffickers.
Alarming Drug Seizures
According to official records, Mizoram authorities seized 46.5 kg of heroin, 138.8 kg of methamphetamine tablets, and 586.6 kg of ganja in 2024 alone. Additionally, over ₹211 crore worth of narcotics were confiscated, leading to the arrest of 468 individuals involved in drug-related offenses.

The Chief Minister assured that his administration will continue to take proactive steps to combat drug abuse and trafficking. He reiterated that Mizoram’s fight against narcotics is not just about enforcement but also about rehabilitation and awareness programs to protect vulnerable communities.
With Mizoram’s strategic location making it a key transit point for drug smuggling, Lalduhoma’s renewed focus on border security and inter-agency collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in curbing the crisis.
