Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) during a rally in Bihar’s Siwan, accusing the party of disrespecting Dalit icon Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The controversy stems from a viral video showing RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s feet near Ambedkar’s portrait during his 78th birthday celebration, sparking outrage across political circles.
“The whole country saw what the RJD did to Babasaheb’s photo. I know they will never apologise because they have no respect for Dalits and the backward classes,” PM Modi said, without directly naming Lalu Yadav.
🗣️ “They Keep Babasaheb at Their Feet, I Keep Him in My Heart”
PM Modi contrasted his government’s values with those of the opposition, stating,
“RJD and Congress place Babasaheb’s photo at their feet, while Modi keeps him in his heart.”
He further accused the RJD-Congress alliance of dynastic politics, corruption, and pushing Bihar into poverty and lawlessness during their rule.
🛑 RJD’s Response and Ongoing Backlash
The RJD has claimed the controversy was a result of a camera angle, asserting that Lalu Yadav had his feet elevated due to medical reasons while a supporter held the portrait nearby. However, the State Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued a notice to Lalu, demanding a formal explanation.
