Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has escalated his criticism of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, questioning the government’s handling of Operation Sindoor and the alleged loss of Indian aircraft due to prior warnings given to Pakistan.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi reiterated his concerns, stating, “EAM Jaishankar’s silence isn’t just telling — it’s damning. So I’ll ask again: How many Indian aircraft did we lose because Pakistan knew?” He further accused the government of compromising national security, calling the alleged forewarning a “crime” rather than a lapse.
Government’s Response & MEA’s Clarification
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) swiftly responded, dismissing Gandhi’s claims as “misrepresentation of facts.” The ministry clarified that India had warned Pakistan after Operation Sindoor commenced, not before, and accused Gandhi of distorting statements made by Jaishankar.
BJP’s Counterattack
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back at Gandhi, with spokespersons accusing him of echoing Pakistan’s narrative. BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya labeled Gandhi’s remarks as “sinister”, while other leaders pointed out that his statements were being aired on Pakistan-based media channels.
What is Operation Sindoor?
Launched on May 7, 2025, Operation Sindoor was India’s military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), eliminating over 100 militants linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
