Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a concrete and generous relief package for the residents of Poonch and other areas affected by Pakistani shelling earlier this month.
During his recent visit to Poonch, Gandhi witnessed firsthand the widespread destruction, where 14 people, including four children, lost their lives, and dozens were injured. The shelling has left hundreds of homes, shops, schools, and religious places severely damaged, causing immense hardship for the local population.
In his letter, Gandhi emphasized the urgent need for rehabilitation, stating that the affected communities have lived in peace and harmony for decades and now require immediate government intervention to rebuild their lives. He shared a video from his visit, highlighting the pain and suffering of the residents and urging the government to fulfill its responsibility rather than treating relief efforts as mere assistance.
The Congress leader’s appeal comes ahead of Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to the affected areas, raising expectations for a swift response from the government.
