In a heartwarming gesture, Team India ODI captain Rohit Sharma gifted a personally signed cricket bat to Ayush Mhatre, the 17-year-old Mumbai prodigy and captain of India’s Under-19 team, ahead of their upcoming tour of England.
Mhatre, who impressed fans and selectors alike with his explosive performances for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, will lead the U-19 squad in a month-long tour featuring five Youth ODIs and two multi-day matches against England U-19, starting June 24.
🏏 “A Bat, A Blessing, and a Memory of a Lifetime”
Sharing the moment on Instagram, Mhatre posted a photo with Rohit Sharma, captioned:
“A bat, a blessing, and a memory of a lifetime — thank you Rohit da.”
The young batter, who idolizes Rohit, had previously shared a dressing room with the veteran during a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai.
🌟 Rising Star on the Global Stage
Mhatre’s IPL 2025 campaign saw him score 206 runs in six matches at a blistering strike rate of 187.27, including a standout 94-run knock against RCB. His leadership and form have made him one of India’s most exciting young talents.
The India U-19 squad also features 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made headlines with a 38-ball century for Rajasthan Royals, becoming the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket.
