India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has undergone a successful sports hernia surgery in Munich, Germany, marking his third surgical procedure in as many years. The 34-year-old batter confirmed the news via social media, stating he is already on the road to recovery and eager to return to action.
“Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back,” he posted.
🏥 Recovery Timeline and Rehab Plan
Suryakumar is expected to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in about two weeks. If recovery goes as planned, he is likely to return to lead India in the T20I series against Bangladesh, starting August 26 in Chattogram.
🏏 Stellar Form Before Surgery
Before the procedure, Suryakumar was in red-hot form:
- IPL 2025: Scored 717 runs, second only to Sai Sudharsan (759), and was named Player of the Tournament
- T20 Mumbai League: Led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, scoring 122 runs in five innings
This was his second sports hernia surgery, following a similar procedure in 2024, and comes after an ankle surgery in 2023.
