Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has strongly criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that “Bengal will keep burning under her rule”, amid escalating violence in the state.
Adhikari’s remarks come in response to the Murshidabad violence, which erupted on April 11 during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The unrest led to two deaths, multiple injuries, and widespread property damage, prompting thousands to flee their homes.
Reports indicate that West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs, suggesting that the Centre may consider imposing President’s Rule if the situation deteriorates further. Adhikari welcomed the report but emphasized that “the people of Bengal do not want reports and speeches, but results”.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has opposed the idea of President’s Rule, arguing that it cannot be implemented arbitrarily and blaming the state administration for the worsening law and order situation.
The violence has spread to Malda, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly, with incidents of arson, stone-pelting, and road blockades reported across multiple districts.
As tensions rise, political leaders continue to debate the state’s governance and security measures, with calls for urgent intervention to restore stability.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
