In a strategic move ahead of the 2026 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) has announced the formation of a dedicated wing for indigenous farmers—Tripura Indigenous Farmers’ Association—aimed at strengthening its grassroots base and promoting tribal agricultural produce.

🌾 Empowering Farmers, Strengthening Identity

TMP supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, in a Facebook post, urged all indigenous farmers to unite under the new association.

“We have some of the best produce in the country, yet we are among the most exploited farmers. To rise as a community, we must empower our farmers economically,” he stated.

The new wing will focus on branding, marketing, and global outreach of local produce such as bamboo, oranges, areca nuts, mangoes, and pineapples, helping farmers transition from local to global markets.

🗳️ Political Strategy Ahead of TTAADC Polls

TMP leaders confirmed that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to consolidate tribal support in the TTAADC region, which covers nearly two-thirds of Tripura and is predominantly inhabited by indigenous communities.

The party already operates influential frontal organizations like the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), Tipra Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF), and Tipra Women’s Federation (TWF). The farmers’ wing is expected to further deepen TMP’s grassroots engagement.

🤝 TMP’s Growing Political Footprint

Formed in 2019, TMP has rapidly emerged as a key political force in Tripura. It won 18 out of 28 seats in the 2021 TTAADC elections and currently holds 13 seats in the 60-member state assembly, with two ministers in the BJP-led coalition government.
