In a surprising turn of events, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has found an unexpected ally in a TMC leader after facing backlash from his own party members. The controversy erupted following Ghosh’s visit to the newly inaugurated Jagannath Temple in Digha, where he met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The temple, a project spearheaded by the TMC government, was inaugurated on Akshay Trithiya. Ghosh, accompanied by his wife, attended the event, sparking speculation about his political allegiance. While Ghosh firmly denied rumors of switching parties, his meeting with Banerjee was live-streamed, drawing sharp criticism from BJP leaders.
State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar distanced the party from Ghosh’s actions, stating, “It was his personal choice. The party does not endorse the visit.” Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari refrained from commenting, while senior BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta expressed discontent, calling the incident a “betrayal.”
Ghosh, however, defended his decision, emphasizing that his visit was based on an official invitation and not a political maneuver. “I have not changed my party in the last decade, and I have no intention of doing so now,” he asserted. He also criticized the internal dynamics of the BJP, claiming that the party’s growth in West Bengal has stagnated due to the inclusion of “touts.”
Interestingly, a TMC leader publicly backed Ghosh, praising his candid approach and grassroots connection. This unexpected support has added a new dimension to the unfolding political drama, as West Bengal gears up for the 2026 assembly elections.
