In a heartbreaking incident that has cast a pall of gloom over the Badharghat area of Agartala, three teenage boys drowned while bathing in a pond near the Agricultural Research Centre on Tuesday morning.
🚨 Victims Identified, All Close Friends
The deceased have been identified as:
- Babi Shukla Das (18)
- Subuam Deb (17)
- Shubhajit Deb (17)
According to police reports, the trio had gone swimming with a fourth friend who stayed back on the bank as he couldn’t swim. The three boys ventured into deeper waters and began to struggle. Despite frantic cries for help, only one was pulled out by a local resident but tragically died en route to the hospital. The other two were later recovered by fire service personnel and declared dead at GB Pant Hospital.

The incident has left the local community in shock. Local MLA Mina Rani Sarkar visited the grieving families to offer condolences, while Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed deep sorrow and directed authorities to take preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.

The pond, located near a government facility, lacked any safety signage or barriers. Residents have urged the administration to install warning boards and restrict access to unsupervised water bodies, especially during summer months when children often swim to beat the heat.
