Tripura Congress Organizes ‘Save Constitution’ Rally Against Misuse of Central Agencies

The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee staged a massive ‘Save Constitution’ rally in Agartala on Tuesday, protesting against the alleged misuse of central agencies by the BJP-led government at the Centre. The rally, part of the Congress’s nationwide campaign to protect constitutional values, saw participation from hundreds of party workers and leaders.

State Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha accused the central government of systematically targeting opposition leaders through agencies like the Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Speaking to reporters, Saha stated, “The BJP is weakening democratic institutions and silencing dissent. This is a direct attack on the Constitution and the rights it guarantees to every citizen.”

The rally began at the Agartala Press Club and proceeded towards the local Income Tax office, where a minor scuffle broke out as Congress workers attempted to breach police barricades. Despite the confrontation, the protest remained largely peaceful, with leaders urging the public to unite in defense of the Constitution.

The Congress has been vocal about its concerns over the alleged misuse of central agencies, particularly in high-profile cases like the National Herald money-laundering case, which involves senior party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The party claims these actions are politically motivated and aimed at undermining opposition voices.

The ‘Save Constitution’ campaign has gained momentum across northeastern states, with similar rallies being organized in Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. Congress leaders have vowed to continue their fight to uphold democratic principles and protect the Constitution from perceived threats.
