Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Tripura Assembly, Jitendra Chaudhury, has expressed optimism about the operationalization of Maitri Setu, a key bridge connecting Sabroom in South Tripura with Ramgarh in Bangladesh. However, he acknowledged that no dialogue is currently possible between India and Bangladesh due to the political situation in Dhaka.

The 1.9-km Maitri Setu, inaugurated in March 2021, was built at a cost of ₹133 crore to enhance trade and connectivity between India and Bangladesh. The bridge, located 72 km from Chittagong Port, is expected to boost economic ties and facilitate cross-border movement of goods and people.

Despite its strategic importance, Maitri Setu remains non-operational, with Chaudhury blaming the BJP-led state government for failing to convince the Centre about its significance.
