The Tripura government has received an additional ₹14.96 crore in central funding to expedite the completion of the Light House Project, a key housing initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The project, aimed at providing affordable housing to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), had faced delays due to financial constraints.
According to a statement from the Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA), the fresh allocation will help resolve pending construction issues and ensure timely delivery of homes to beneficiaries. The Light House Project, which was initially scheduled for completion in October 2022, had been stalled due to a fund crunch, leaving many homeowners in limbo.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha played a crucial role in securing the additional funds, reaffirming the state’s commitment to affordable housing. The TUDA has assured beneficiaries that the project will now move forward without further delays, with completion expected within the year.
Beneficiaries, who had previously expressed frustration over prolonged delays, welcomed the announcement but urged authorities to provide a clear timeline for possession. Many had gathered at the TUDA office earlier this year, demanding transparency and accountability in the project’s execution.
The Light House Project is part of a broader national initiative to implement innovative construction technologies for mass housing. While similar projects in other states have been successfully completed, Tripura’s implementation had faced hurdles due to financial and administrative challenges.
With the latest funding boost, the state government hopes to fast-track construction and fulfill its promise of providing affordable, sustainable housing to deserving families. The TUDA has assured regular updates on the project’s progress, ensuring that beneficiaries receive their homes at the earliest.
