In a strategic push to boost India’s $1 trillion economy target, the Uttar Pradesh Horticulture Department has unveiled a focused plan to increase exports of premium fruits such as mangoes, dragon fruit, kiwi, and oranges. The initiative aims to position the state as a key player in global horticultural trade while empowering farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

Aligning Agriculture with Global Demand

At a high-level review meeting, Horticulture Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh directed consulting firm Delight India to prepare a comparative export analysis of landlocked Indian states. The goal is to identify best practices and untapped global markets for UP’s high-value crops.

“We must align our production with international demand and promote export-ready varieties,” Singh emphasized.

Key Measures Underway

  • Seed Parks Proposal: A plan to establish seed parks under the PPP model to ensure availability of high-quality planting material.
  • Digital Outreach: Formation of a dedicated team to digitally promote horticulture schemes and tech innovations among farmers.
  • Processing & Value Addition: Emphasis on processing horticultural produce to enhance shelf life and export value.
  • Global Market Mapping: Identification of new international markets for UP-grown fruits and processed products.
