Indian entrepreneur Vasundhara Oswal, 26, has been exonerated by a Ugandan court after spending several weeks in detention over what her family calls a fabricated legal case. The court dismissed all charges after the complainant repeatedly failed to appear and provided no evidence or testimony to support the allegations.
Background of the Case
Oswal, executive director of PRO Industries and daughter of industrialist Pankaj Oswal, was arrested in Uganda in connection with a complaint filed by a former employee who had allegedly borrowed $200,000 from the family. When the employee’s family refused to repay the loan as guarantors, he reportedly filed false allegations against Vasundhara.
Her father had appealed to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, alleging that Vasundhara was held under degrading conditions, denied access to legal counsel, and slapped with inadmissible charges to block her bail.
Legal Fallout and Global Implications
Following her release, the Oswal family has initiated legal action across multiple jurisdictions, including India, to hold the complainant accountable. They allege the case was part of a cross-border extortion scheme, now being dragged into Switzerland after failing in Uganda and India.
“It’s extortion, plain and simple, fabricated as a crime to trigger international legal chaos,” the family said in a statement.
