Maharashtra VHP Demands Identity Checks and Tilak Application for Navratri Garba Events

Navratri Festival Preparations Underway

Preparations for the upcoming Navratri festival are currently underway across various regions. With the celebrations set to begin in October, cultural and religious organizations are beginning to release guidelines and directives regarding public events.

Demands for Entry Restrictions

Ahead of the festive season, the Vishva Hindu Parishad in Maharashtra has issued a controversial appeal regarding the management of garba and dandiya celebrations. The organization has requested event organizers to implement strict security and verification measures at all venue entrances.

Mandatory Identity Verification and Rituals

According to the directive issued by the regional chapter, organizers should verify the identity of every attendee before granting entry. Specifically, the group has suggested checking government-issued identification documents such as Aadhar cards. Additionally, the proposal includes applying a traditional tilak to attendees as a condition of entry to these cultural dances.

Timing of the Announcement

This call for heightened security and entry restrictions comes approximately one month prior to the official commencement of the Navratri festival. Organizers and local authorities are yet to formally respond to these newly proposed guidelines for the traditional celebrations.
