The National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped in to support Himanshi Narwal, wife of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Himanshi has faced severe online trolling after she urged people not to spread hate against Muslims and Kashmiris in her first public statement following the tragedy.

The attack, which claimed 26 lives, including tourists and security personnel, has led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. However, Himanshi’s appeal for peace and justice was met with social media backlash, with some users questioning her stance and making personal attacks.

The NCW issued a strong statement, condemning the trolling and emphasizing that targeting a woman for her ideological expression or personal life is unacceptable. The commission urged citizens to maintain civil discourse and respect constitutional boundaries when expressing disagreements.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar reiterated that while people may have differing opinions, harassment and personal attacks against Himanshi are deeply unfortunate. The commission assured that it remains committed to protecting the dignity and respect of every woman.

The incident has sparked a larger conversation about online harassment and the treatment of women in public discourse, with several political leaders and activists expressing solidarity with Himanshi.
