The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) in Greater Noida has made history by launching BIMCOIN, India’s first blockchain-based campus currency. Designed to revolutionize campus transactions and fintech education, BIMCOIN enables secure, transparent, and instant payments among students, vendors, and administrators through a permissioned blockchain platform.

A Fintech Milestone in Indian Academia

BIMCOIN is more than just a digital wallet—it’s a hands-on learning tool. Developed in collaboration with the Kalp Decentra Foundation, the initiative includes a dedicated Blockchain Learning Centre on campus. The pilot phase saw over 1,100 successful transactions, with students using BIMCOIN for canteen purchases, event registrations, and more.

Built for the Future

Unlike traditional systems, BIMCOIN leverages smart contracts, advanced encryption, and strict access controls, ensuring high security and fraud protection. It aligns with the Digital India and Viksit Bharat 2047 visions, drawing inspiration from the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) model.

Academic Integration and Industry Readiness

BIMTECH plans to integrate blockchain and fintech modules into its curriculum, giving students real-world exposure to emerging technologies. “BIMCOIN is not just a payment solution—it’s an educational instrument,” said Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director of BIMTECH.

What’s Next?

Following the pilot’s success, BIMTECH will expand BIMCOIN’s usage across campus and explore partnerships to scale the model to other institutions.
