Reliance Infra Secures ₹600 Crore Export Order from Germany’s Rheinmetall, Boosting India’s Defence Exports

Nothing 101

In a major boost to India’s private defence manufacturing sector, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infrastructure has announced that its subsidiary, Reliance Defence, has bagged a ₹600 crore export order from German defence giant Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH. The deal is one of the largest high-tech ammunition contracts awarded to an Indian private company and marks a significant milestone in India’s growing role in the global defence supply chain.

Strategic Partnership Strengthens Indo-German Defence Ties

The order follows a recently formalized strategic partnership between Reliance Defence and Rheinmetall, aimed at enhancing collaboration in advanced ammunition and explosives manufacturing. The partnership aligns with India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, with both companies committed to long-term cooperation and technology transfer.

“Our ambition is clear — to position Reliance Defence among the world’s top three defence exporters,” said Anil D. Ambani, Founder Chairman of Reliance Group.

Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City to Power Production

The order will be executed from the upcoming Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC) in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, which is set to become the largest greenfield defence project by a private company in India. The facility will focus on the production of explosives, ammunition, and small arms, and is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s defence export ambitions.

Market Impact and Future Outlook

Following the announcement, Reliance Infrastructure shares surged 5%, hitting the upper circuit at ₹404.05, reflecting strong investor confidence. The company has also partnered with Germany’s Diehl Defence to locally produce Vulcano 155 mm terminally guided munitions, targeting ₹10,000 crore in revenue over the next five years.

Rheinmetall AG, with a market cap exceeding €80 billion, operates in 171 locations globally and is a leader in armoured vehicles, air defence systems, and advanced ammunition.
