Guwahati – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has escalated his criticism of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, questioning his alleged connections with Pakistan and demanding clarity on his family’s reported visits to the neighboring country.

Speaking at a public event, Sarma stated, “There are no Kaziranga, Manas, or Orang (national parks) in Pakistan. Whose house in Pakistan did he go to? He will have to inform us.” He further alleged that Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colburn, had visited Pakistan multiple times, raising concerns about her ties with Pakistani officials.

Sarma’s remarks follow his earlier accusations that Gogoi’s wife had worked under Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, an advisor to the Pakistan Planning Commission, and had links to ISI-affiliated organizations. The Assam CM also hinted at the possibility of forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, stating that “definite information” exists regarding Colburn’s visits to Pakistan after her marriage.

Gogoi has dismissed the allegations as “laughable and baseless”, accusing the BJP of spreading misinformation to defame him and his family. He has vowed to take legal action against the claims.

The controversy has intensified political tensions in Assam, with both leaders engaging in heated exchanges over governance, security, and personal matters.
