Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has extended heartfelt congratulations to the United Democratic Front (UDF) and its candidate Aryadan Shoukath for their emphatic victory in the Nilambur Assembly by-election in Kerala. The UDF reclaimed the seat from the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) with a margin of 11,077 votes, marking a significant political shift ahead of the 2026 state elections.
“Teamwork and Commitment Made This Victory Possible”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Priyanka Gandhi praised the UDF’s collective effort, writing, “We worked as a team, each one with commitment and single-pointed focus—that is the most important lesson of this success.” She lauded Shoukath’s dedication and thanked the people of Nilambur for placing their trust in the UDF’s vision for progress.
Aryadan Shoukath Reclaims Father’s Legacy
Aryadan Shoukath, son of late Congress veteran Aryadan Muhammed, secured 77,737 votes, defeating CPI(M)’s M Swaraj, who garnered 66,660 votes. Independent candidate P.V. Anvar, who previously held the seat with LDF backing, received 19,760 votes, while BJP’s Mohan George trailed with 8,648 votes.
A Blow to LDF, Boost for Congress
The bypoll win is seen as a referendum on the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government, with Shoukath calling it a “victory against state neglect.” The result also strengthens the position of Kerala PCC chief Sunny Joseph and boosts morale within the Congress ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Strategic Significance for Priyanka Gandhi
Nilambur falls under Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Priyanka Gandhi. Her active campaigning, including a roadshow and public rally, is credited with energizing the UDF base and consolidating minority support.
