The Tripura government has received assurance from the Centre to boost milk and fish production, aiming to double the income of those engaged in dairy farming, animal husbandry, and pisciculture.

Government’s Strategic Plan

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, during the inauguration of a 40,000-litre milk processing unit in West Tripura, emphasized the state’s potential in dairy and fisheries. He proposed collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) to develop a comprehensive strategy for the sector.

Key Initiatives

  • Expansion of Dairy Farms: The government plans to establish eight dairy farms, each housing 200 cows, to bridge the gap between milk demand and supply.
  • Artificial Insemination Programs: Officials have been urged to accelerate artificial insemination efforts to improve livestock productivity.
  • Cold Chain Development: A statewide cold chain will be implemented to ensure quality milk production and distribution.
  • Self-Sufficiency Goals: Tripura aims to achieve self-reliance in milk, eggs, fish, and meat production within the next five years.

Economic Impact

The initiative is expected to boost rural livelihoods, enhance food security, and position Tripura as a key player in India’s dairy and fisheries sector.

Conclusion

With central support, Tripura is set to transform its dairy and fisheries industries, ensuring sustainable growth and economic prosperity for farmers and entrepreneurs.
