Itanagar – Arunachal Pradesh Water Resources Minister Mama Natung conducted a high-level review of the ongoing flood protection project aimed at safeguarding the vulnerable Pakke river stretch in Seijosa, Pakke-Kessang district.

The project, initiated in response to recurrent monsoon flooding, focuses on riverbank reinforcement, embankment construction, and erosion control measures to protect local communities and infrastructure. Officials highlighted that the Pakke river, which widened significantly due to flash floods in 2004, remains a high-risk zone for seasonal flooding.

During the review, Natung emphasized the importance of climate-resilient infrastructure, urging engineers to accelerate project completion before the peak monsoon season. He also directed the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to conduct awareness programs for residents in flood-prone areas.

The minister’s visit comes amid broader efforts to modernize Arunachal Pradesh’s flood mitigation strategies, with the state government allocating ₹250 crore for riverbank stabilization projects across multiple districts.

Local environmental activists have welcomed the initiative but stressed the need for long-term ecological restoration to counteract deforestation and shifting rainfall patterns, which have exacerbated flooding risks in the region.

Stay tuned for further updates on Arunachal Pradesh’s flood protection initiatives.
