Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has called for heightened security and surveillance across the state in light of the evolving situation in neighboring Bangladesh, citing increased risks of cross-border infiltration, drug trafficking, and cyber threats. The remarks came during the inauguration of Tripura’s first cyber police station in Agartala’s AD Nagar.
🚨 “Tripura Surrounded on Three Sides by Bangladesh”: CM Saha
“We all know the present situation in Bangladesh. There is a need to enhance security arrangements,” said CM Saha, emphasizing Tripura’s geostrategic vulnerability due to its shared border on three sides with Bangladesh.
He warned that the state has become a corridor for narcotics smuggling, and flagged concerns over infiltration and unauthorized cross-border communication, especially with the advent of AI-enabled 5G technology.
🧠 Cybercrime: The New Frontier of Conflict
Highlighting the shift from conventional warfare to digital threats, Saha said:
“A mobile phone has become more dangerous than an AK-47. Advanced technology has changed the form of battle, conflict, or war.”
He termed cybercrime a form of “shadow warfare”, urging law enforcement to upgrade digital capabilities and raise public awareness to combat online fraud and surveillance threats.
